Birds of Foon

Birds are animals native to both Earth & Foon. Usidore the Blue just loves them.

Traditionally, there are Nine Birds of Foon: This, however, is not meant to be exhaustive list of the actual birds in Foon, but most likely part of a poetic tradition, similar as Earth's set of virtues. In reality, many other kinds of birds exist, including crows.

  • Kestrels
  • Turkeys
  • Chickens
  • Popinjays
  • Kingfishers
  • Sparrows
  • Wrens
  • Peacocks
  • Geese
  • Sculphines, the birds that go "bwah bwah bweeeeeenh"

Other Bird Species

Eagles

Main article: Eagles

Eagles are notable for having been alive since the dawn of the creation of Foon. They are sentient and generally spend their time rescuing wizards at the end of their quests. Note that these are technically great eagles, as Foon also has regular eagles that are neither great nor sentient.

Robins

Robins, however, are not indigenous to the land of Foon. The Wizard Council brought robins into existence based off Arnie's description of that bird on Earth to Usidore.

Storks

Storks in Foon eat babies.

Owls

Owls have been spreading some of Arnie's Earth vocabulary throughout the Foon populace. They are capable of picking up words psychically, including racist terms.

Starlings

Starlings are Usidore's least favorite bird.1 For a long period his untempered hatred was unexplained, but he eventually revealed his issue was that the Starlings Council had invited him to speak one weekend then failed to to inform him when the event was canceled.2 Usidore is eventually pursuaded to drop his grudge, and resolves to make peace with the starlings,3 but by then Baron Ragoon had made a recording of one of Usidore's more heated diatribes against the birds. The Baron plays the recording for the starlings, and they join in the attack against Usidore and the members of his quest at the Battle of Hogsface.4

Communication

Eunuchs can communicate freely with birds, and their tweets are often used to spread secrets. Ravens are often employed as messengers. There is at least one band (viz. The Black Crows) where all the members are birds.
