"Fooniverse - Earth Comics: Family Circus" is a Patreon bonus episode of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on August 11, 2022.
Description
Arnie introduces Chunt and Usidore to the whimsical charm of Family Circus.
Summary
Still not settled with the Patreon intro, Usidore and Chunt describe to Arnie several visual intros to use. Many of them include very dramatic music. However, “motherfucker” at the end seems to be a key thread in all of them. Arnie mentions that Ira Glass also had on This American Life.
As much as they could make the episode about intros, Arnie brings them back to the Patreon Episode: Earth Comics. Chunt is still reeling from when they looked at Garfield Comic. The three then toys with the idea of making the new intro “Fuck Garfield”. Instead of going back to the Garfield Books, Arnie brings everyone around to his laptop and pulls up Family Circus. He goes over the main premise of the series, but the other two cannot stop comparing it to Garfield and what Garfield would do in Family Circus. Chunt feels the need to brag about how high he is to maintain his high. Meanwhile, Usidore gets ice cream for everyone.
On Website: Tuesday, July 5th, 2022
The hosts nitpick on the appearance of the children. Arnie cannot remember what the family’s last name is. The watermelon looks like blood to them. Usidore is not sure how the kids can say the quote at the bottom of the bubble, once again mistaking the artist signature as part of the text. Chunt cannot find the humor in the comic and Usidore blames the children’s poor education, prompting Arnie to explain the child logic behind it.
Wednesday, July 6th, 2022
Usidore attempts to justify the child’s action, stating that the pants are assigned for each day of the week. Chunt is distracted by the hot mom. Arnie explains what a laundry detergent and a laundry room is, though Chunt thinks the detergent is cocaine.
Usidore analyzes why the comic is in a circle, thinking there is a treasure at the end, while Arnie finds something voyeuristic about peering into the slice-of-life. They look at the website’s comments, despite Usidore’s protest. Many comments are trying to rewrite the comic and are mostly poop-related. They could be Magic Tavern Listeners as well.
Thursday, July 7th, 2022
Usidore thinks the kid as marijuana. They all agree that the comic is bad.
Friday, July 8th, 2022
Chunt asks if bothering someone older than you is humorous.
Saturday, July 9th, 2022
Chunt assumes the name of the child is Billy Yum Yum 2x2. Billy looks quite smug and they solve the laundry mystery.
Sunday, July 10th, 2022
Chunt sees the four panel comic and Arnie explains, like Garfield, it is a Sunday special. The guys break down the comic, as ,the father is ready to fuck. Chunt says this is the best comic so far. The hosts go back and forth deducing what the mom is doing, between fisting the pillow to a murder plot to the dad. They look at the comments, which is twice as many as the last comic they looked at. Usidore asks why “there are two Billys” and they all explain to Chunt how babies are born.
Monday, July 11, 2022
Usidore goes for another drink and Arnie asks Chunt if Usidore is doing okay. Chunt is worried that Usidore will slip from all the mud on the floor, which he does when he comes back. The dad might be chronically depressed. Because the series seems so humorless, Usidore requests to edit in a laugh track, but decides to do that with magic. Arnie asks if Family Circus is better than Garfield and the Sunday comic seems to trump Garfield as a whole.
Tuesday, July 12, 2022
The child seems to lack basic nutrition knowledge. Usidore feels that they are all dumber for not having their names on their shirts. Chunt treats the comics as a puzzle that needs to be solved from panel to panel.
Wednesday, July 13, 2022
Chunt describes the comic, and Usidore forgot to add the laugh track. Chunt takes out a cork board and solves the overall puzzle: Billy is King Shit.
Thursday, July 14, 2022
There is a cat in this one that isn’t Garfield. Usidore remembers the laugh track this time. They go back into the comments to see if they can make the comic funny with varying success, but overall does not help. Usidore remakes there are better ways to spend time than being in the comments on the Family Circus website. Arnie remarks that the series was originally printed in the newspaper and it might be better through that lens.
Friday, July 15th, 2022
The group learns that the redheaded main character’s name is Jeffy. They focus on how hot the mom is again and they all want better for her. Usidore wonders if the mom ever wondered about just leaving her life behind.
Saturday, July 16, 2022
Chunt says the mom looks great in jean shorts and they all wonder what kind of life the mom would live outside of her family. Arnie doesn’t want to objectify the mom, but definitely has a different context for her as an adult than when he read the comics as a child. Chunt wants the mom to go to Garfield, then expands that all the comics should crossover.
Sunday, July 17th, 2022
Usidore explains the comic, but the group also describes the mom riding off into the sunset.
Chunt gives so many great alternatives to the comics that Usidore wants to see Chunt’s version of Family Circus. Chunt promises to make a month’s worth of Family Circus at 5,000 patrons. Arnie asks how many patrons will it take for a “Chunt-aduke” to come out and Chunt responses there will never be enough. They end the episode with Usidore’s guitar intro.
Space Bunker Plot
Craig and Pv3 play I Spy in the car and Pv3 reminds Craig about the transmission. After the show, Pv3 asks for a soda, but Craig “adorably” drank it already.
Post Credit Scene
The last comic Arnie describes; dad is making medium done burgers for the kids and the child asks “Large Please, Daddy”. All of them are taking from this, from the absurdity of giving children medium done burgers to a child asking “Large Please Daddy”. They now change the catchphrase from “Don’t Die” to “Large Please Daddy”. Chunt reads the next comic with “Large Please Daddy” and they all learn that the mom’s name is Thel.
