Description
We meet a gnome named Aprel and learn several important lessons about friendship.
Summary
Casual wizbro Twosidore returns and waxes zen about names. Arnie is disappointed to learn that Twosidore isn't quite as into him as he is into Twosi. Regardless, Arnie is loved. Usidore doesn't like any of it. Chunt wants to know what's up with the whole Twosi/Arnie dynamic. This leads to a chat about best friends. Usidore stumbles trying to name his bestie.
Arnie has been burning some brain cells trying to figure out the riddle. Perhaps there are doors in the basement, and they need to use magic to go through all of them at the same time. Maybe Twosidore can help!
While Usidore is on a pouty drink run, Arnie introduces this week's guest Aprel Füls, a gnome only two squirrels tall. He explains he's not a guardin' gnome, but a protectin' gnome. Usidore returns with the drinks and is immediately recognized as Dick Bisque by Aprel. Happy to be recognized, Usidore casts a hat sharpening spell upon Aprel.
Aprel is the official Prank Bastard of Hogsface. His favorite is the old pane of glass on a chamber pot trick. (Classic!) The conversation (after a brief math detour) turns to the many kinds of comedy in Foon. Maybe Arnie could be a Poops Standing Up Comic! Aprel outlines the comedy color code; pranksters like himself are noted by their yellow collars. Arnie's poop-centric humor would be blue.
Aprel pranks Arnie with a pane of glass down his shirt. This reminds Arnie that it was prophesied that he would become a trickster god (Carnival Wilson). Maybe he should learn from Aprel. Aprel shows him the old mayonnaise cookie trick. Arnie has a great idea to prank Usidore with a joke that won't pay off for years. Aprel slips a seed inside Usidore's cloak. Get it? It will eventually grow into a tree growing out of his cloak and he'll be like, "WHAAAAAA?"
Aprel reveals that he has no friends, due to excessive pranking. Usidore tries to play it cool and asks him out. Aprel is down. In your faces, Chunt and Arnie! Usidore has a best friend! Usi completely skips the honeymoon phase and asks Aprel if he'll help him defeat the Dark Lord. Aprel has his own goal to prank the Dark Lord at his upcoming birthday party, occurring right around the same time as the book club. Aprel and Dick Bisque compare favorite things: birds, rocks, …birds on rocks. Arnie and Chunt begin to have second thoughts about the seed prank.
Aprel outlines the plan to infiltrate the Dark Lord's party by riding Arnie and having Usidore as plus one. Chunt feels left out. Arnie reassures Chunt that they are, as ever, besties.
