Description
A bird and mouse that fly in Arnie’s window every morning and help him get dressed stop by to chat.
Summary
Arnie, Chunt, and Usidore discuss how to find a more youthful audience, and discuss their own youthfulness.
As their guest Arnie has Fontleroy Obama, a bird and Pepper, a mouse; the woodland creatures who enter Arnie’s window and dress him every morning.
Fontleroy and Pepper share their experiences as dressers. They are thousands of years old, and have spent most of their long lives dressing Princesses. They confirm Arnie is very princess-like in his attitude and willingness to be pampered. He has not been paying Pepper or Fontleroy except in exposure, and they are seeking other employment.
In the course of interview, Pepper and Fontleroy address the fact that they’re only just work friends, and could be closer. Pepper lives in a hole nibbling crumbs. Fontleroy goes home to a pie where he practices music, especially sea chanties, as he has always dreamed of going to sea.
With Chunt and Usidore’s backing, Pepper and Fontleroy make demands to improve their working conditions, but Arnie admits that he’s not actually a fan of being dressed by woodland creatures, and proceeds to fire Pepper and Fontleroy. In quick succession, they are hired by Usidore, but amid growing concerns about his pay scheme quit and are hired by Chunt, though he too cannot pay much.
Usidore instead offers to give Fontleroy a boat, fulfilling his wish for a life on the sea, with Pepper pursuing her own interest in cooking as the galley cook, but he is wary of the offer. While the consider it, Pepper and Fontleroy admit they were hoping to quit their job soon anyway, so Arnie’s firing is not a great disaster.
