"Tom the Person Reading a Book" is the twenty-fourth episode of season three of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on January 12, 2020.

Description

Chunt and Usidore try to get Arnie interested in the show again when they run into one of their oldest and dearest friends: author and prince, Tomblain Belaroth.

Summary

Chunt and Usidore are fireside in the Library of Meridanth, and start the podcast alone. Despite having some ideas on how to improve the show format without Arnie’s strict rules, they are concerned that he has lost all interest in the podcast. Instead Arnie, still in the form of a tiki mug, has become obsessed with being drunk out of.

Their loud attempts to lure Arnie back to the podcast annoy another library patron, who soon recognizes them: it’s self-exiled prince, actor, spy, and author Tomblain Belaroth. He is in the Library of Meridanth signing copies of his autobiography Think You Can’t Change Your Life? I Bat You Can.

Tom is on his book tour, slowly working his way back to the Northeast. He’s trying to get the password the library’s HBO, the Home Book Office, not only so he can plant his book in that exclusive section, but so he can get caught up on Succession; specifically all the rules thereof.

Usidore suggests that transferring Arnie from his tiki mug into another vessel may restore his dedication to fighting evil, or at least continuing the podcast. After considering their options, Arnie is magically transferred to a copy of Tomblain’s book. Unfortunately possessing Tom’s biography overwhelms Arnie’s sense-of-self, and he becomes convinced he is himself Tomblain. After efforts to shake him of his delusion fail, he is transferred instead to a large gummy baby.

Arnie begins to feel himself again, and he, Chunt, and Usidore ask Tomblain when he’ll be ascending to the throne so that he can assist in the fight against the Dark Lord. Tomblain has confused feelings about returning home and seeing his first love Rhiannon, but also doesn’t know if his relationship with Alice P. Corn will endure. He does, however, share that the library may have more pages of the Book of Sight hidden away.

Tired of whispering, the group relocates first to the library Loud Room, then the Normal Conversation room, and after revealing he too is a member of the Silent Eye, Tom says he can act as soon as he returns to the seat of the Belaroths in the Northeast.

Usidore summons the flying horse Pegaseven, and they bid Tom goodbye, while they themselves continue to search the library.

Emails

Naomi and Nikki from Australia ask if the trio is still in touch with Tomblain? Is it possible that Tom failing to take the throne and do the Bat Dance has strengthened the Dark Lord? Maybe, but Tom will soon set it right.
