"Baron Emeritus" is the forty-fifth episode of season three of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on June 15, 2020.

Description

An accidental encounter with Baron Ragoon leads to some new discoveries about the Shattering. Also, Chunt's voice changes.

Summary

Chunt enters the Rune Room with Arnie, but something is strange about him. He appears on the Rune Call as a sea urchin, but he is talking with an accent and is calling Arnie "Boss”, which makes him feel uncomfortable. Usidore feels that this additional personality change is temporary.

Usidore wishes to host a symposium of the greatest minds in Foon to fix the Shattering., so he asks the group to channel their energies to help summon them in the Rune Call. Their call connects to a Bust Shop, where Jon Bustmen works, but the visuals don't connect. When both parties recognize the other's voice, they reveal their visuals and Baron Ragoon was on the other line. He found out Gratax Jones's alternate identity and murdered him.

Still reeling from the Destruction of Hogsface, Baron Ragoon recounts that he was rescued by an eagle and left amnesiac at a Browine Village. He slowly regained his memories and wandered around Foon, disgraced from his defeat and abandoned by the Dark Lord. His children, Jayme and Sayme, are now the new Baron and Baroness of The Shrike Valley. In order to restore his honor, Ragoon met up with Dripfang and started a podcast based off their tour of mayhem and destruction. Their mission was successful and Ragoon is promoted into Baron Emeritus and tasked by the Dark Lord to take down heroes and murder them.

The now Baron Emeritus reveals that he has secrets about the Shattering, which their group calls the Fragmenting. Usidore plays it cool, trying to suss out information from the side of Evil. After Chunt returns back to normal and Arnie annoys the Baron with his dictionary definitions, both sides admit that they don't know how the Shattering/Fragmenting happened. Arnie suggest that the two sides team up again in hopes to solve their unprecedented predicament, but the Baron refuses, since they have teamed up several times before and had less than fruitful results for either side. Instead, they decide to have a race to be the first to solve the Shattering/Fragmenting. If evil wins, all the wizards, Arnie, and Chunt must recognize evil as the superior way and join the side of evil. If good wins, the Baron and his cohort will side with the forces of good and the Baron must buy Chunt's newspapers he had when he was a sea urchin.

The conversation ends, and the Baron feels less dreaded from the group since, although they have bested him in the past, the episode proves that they are still the same old group, just not a group to be simply trifled with.

Notes

  • The Baron sums up the events from Masters of Mayhem podcast, including being married again and enslaving a goddess.
  • While discussing nicknames sea urchin Chunt gives Arnie, the name “Champ” comes up, which Arnie responds that name is better suited for Horses. Champ is the name of Chunt’s counterpart in Cowboy World.
  • Despite hosting several book clubs, Arnie admits he barely knows how to read.
  • Chunt and Usidore is worried about Arnie's mental state, as he displays instances of Vacant memories. Besides playing for comedic effect, this may be caused from his mind being swiss cheesed back when Arnie was swapped on Earth.
  • The Baron has an unusual amount of knowledge of Earth Stuff despite not being prompted by Arnie, first shown in Dark Lord’s Birthday Party. This has been proven that The Baron has been stealing Arnie's memories back from season 2.
  • Foon is not new to disasters happening every 100 years or so.
    • 100 years ago - Everyone in Foon was trapped inside the same dog for 10 years.
    • 200 years ago - All stars turned into Banans and everyone on Foon had an iron deficiency
    • 420 years ago - The Blazening; Everyone on Foon was lit and stoned for 100 days.
  • The Dark Lord has a cat.
  • The Baron now owes the group not just one, but two favors; one for Usidore saving the Baron with an eagle from the Destruction of Hogsface in the hopes to turn him good, and one for relieving him from the staring eyes of the bust shop.
