Description
Can the Wizard returns to help solve a time mystery… and yell about his own murder.
Summary
Arnie is worried that his obsession with the artifact of his middle school portrait is ruining the listenership of the show. Chunt reassures him that if they’ve been going on for this long, the podcast is probably invincible.
Still, the fact that Arnie’s middle school image has been in Foon for (many) years now, assumingly before Arnie has stepped into Foon, has been haunting Arnie for weeks now. Usidore hypothesize that it might be a magical side effect. Suddenly, Can the Wizard appears, ready to solve this time mystery. His appearance is jarring, since Chunt stabbed him episodes ago. Arnie asks how this could be and Can and Usidore retorts that Wizards die all the time. As a Wizard of Time and Space, Can has existed in most times, out of order, at various ages. Though Chunt pushed Can on a wizard killing obsidian sword, that event has yet to happen for Can. Can then explains that he lives in an “Extended Groundhog Effect” where he lives from the beginning of Foon to the end of Foon, then lives again at the beginning of Foon, retaining his knowledge and “future” events as he has already lived it. Chunt and Usidore point out the inconsistency of his lifecycle and Can calls them out for bullying him. To make it up to Can and stress that they are not bullying him, Usidore summons a Sandwich Buffet, which Can only prefers mayo.
Due to the overwhelming amounts of Cans existing, Can is forced to keep track of himself. So he starts to assemble all the Cans together, however they struggle on a name. Usidore asks what the goal for “Can-kind”, a name Can hopes to remember to call themselves. He has trouble remembering in general, only knows that shit is coming. As Arnie enjoys himself at the sandwich buffet, Chunt and Usidore wonder, with all the Cans they have met, why have they not met a young Can. Can reveals that they have, as he is not a traditional Wizard, but Arnie, who has gone through the loops of time over and over again, learned magic, and eventually became Can the Wizard and gets murdered by Chunt.
Chunt and Usidore doubt the validity, but can’t help but to be weird around Arnie when he tries to rejoin the group. Even Can becomes more and more wary of his statement. Nevertheless, it’s the only possibility that justifies most of the bullshit of the show (their words). Can asks Chunt and Usidore if he should tell Arnie, but they say no, that the revelation may overwhelm him as he’s still struggling with the artifact. Can eventually recognizes the portrait and the point in time he is currently in is important. He summons a Rainbow Bowl spiked with morglorb for Arnie, in hopes to send his mind back to when the portrait was done. However, when Arnie drinks it, it sends his whole body, without his sword in his chest. Usidore and Chunt take the leftover Rainbow Bowl and follow him.
Space Bunker Plot
As the Mysterious Man closes the podcast broadcast, Tricia comes up to him with a new idea of revitalizing Chicago Theater; instead of improv, she’s now training herself in dance. She moves the 19th century tapes she found in her dance space, one of which is labeled “The Arnie Niekamp Show.”
Post Credit Scene
Can the Wizard is alone to end the podcast. He checks up on DQ, who is still in the dungeon. Luckily, he found a rat and ate it, giving him another 8 weeks.
