Description
It's Winter Solstice time again and due to a snowstorm Arnie, Usidore and Chunt have to take shelter with a friendly squirrel.
Summary
Finally back on the road, Arnie, Chunt, and Usidore trudge through a snowstorm, climbing a mountain, hoping to reach to the Tavern on top. Although Usidore is fine, Arnie and Chunt struggle in the cold. To compensate, Chunt shifts into a polar bear, which reminds Usidore to wish Chunt a happy Shiftmas. Between being stabbed, stuck in the shattering, house sitting at Castle Skullmaster, and traveling to Earth's 1989, time flies for group.
Arnie eventually spots a light in a distance and a small voice is hear by his feet. He introduces himself as Fluff, a small squirrel, and is very excited to meet the group. He invites them into his home, a big hole under a tree. Despite the initially description, the place is actually quite spacious since he digs out more space to be inclusive to company. As Fluff shows off his supplies for hibernation, Fluff offers some of his beer supplies for the Squirpel Bowl. The Squirpel Bowl is an annual event after the hibernation season where the squirrels go to an area and fight to the death. He also describe his family, as he is an empty nester and a grandfather. His family may visit during the Winter Solstice, but they have families of their own. This serves a reminder to Chunt, as he has been separated from his Eggy Baby for nearly a year now, but is cheered up by an impromptu episode of Gettin' Nuts.
The group gets to know Fluff a little more, however, Fluff lets it slip that he calls his "hibernation station" a "bunker". This raisers eyebrows for Chunt and he privately groups with Usidore and Arnie as they start to notice the peculiar items in the hole, such as the conspiracy theories on the wall and the fact that they are locked in. Chunt asks Fluff how to get out, but he asserts they would have to wait for the door to thaw, trapping them with him for another 3-4 months. Arnie bluntly contemplates that he would rather not be stuck in one place again due to their time in the Shattering and house sitting, so Fluff starts acting passive aggressively, saying that his family is coming by and he does not need their company, contradicting the current situation.
During the break, Arnie finds many RSVP notes with the word "no" on it and Chunt finds squirrel bones in Fluff's attic, which are his winnings from the Squirpel Bowl. The group notices that much of the furniture around them is made out of such bones. He also share some of his believes, like whom squirrels worship and how chipmunks are using pears to control people's minds to think chipmunks are chill.
The group panics and try to find means of escape and anything they could use to defend themselves. It's at that point that FLuff says that he considers the three as his close friends and admits that he originally wanted to take their bones for himself. After Arnie started to take interest in Fluff at the beginning of their encounter, he genuinely cares about them. Fluff takes this time to make a change in himself, invites his arch enemy, Craig the Chipmunk, inside to join him in hibernation and apologies for his cruelty to him and other chipmunks. Usidore invites Fluff to fight with him to defeat the Dark Lord in the future, which he agrees to. After the group walks away from the two small mammals, Arnie comes back for his equipment and retorts that he could've taken both Fluff and Craig in a fight. Chunt goes back to retrive Arnie and they wish them a happy Winter Solstice.
