Description
Benedict Whisperbrew, the former Court Gossip to Queen Titannia, is back in Northeastia and is almost certainly up to something.
Summary
Arnie starts the intro, when Chunt interrupts, suggesting to Arnie that he should ratchet up the fear to the audience. Usidore leads the group on the streets of Northeastia to look for Benedict Whisperbrew, who may have information on Tom’s disappearance, at the very least to direct them in the right direction. Down the gilded road, made of sweet baked goods, Whisperbrew pops out of nowhere and invites them into his home.
Benedict Whisperbrew has rose up the ranks again and is to be interim Court Eunuch for the Belaroth Court. The previous Eunuch, Dennis Brittlebrains, fell down the molasses staircase and hit his head on the marble floor. Unrelated, Whisperbrew had a midnight book club and was able to see the fall from the shadows. The group goes over books for the midnight book club and also future books to read.
While asking about Tom’s disappearance, which Benedict has no new information about, he brings up the time with Princess Trachea Aurelia and the play they’ve been working on. However, they have not seen each other since the play run ended. Apparently she was a pain to work with. At the wrap party for their play, Benedict was working on a new play. He handed the manuscript to Trachea for her review, but she disappeared the next day. Usidore adds retrieving the manuscript to his growing quest.
Benedict also goes over his past with the Brittlebrains Siblings (Duncan Brittlebrains is still alive) and his time at the Gossip academy. Through all his training at the academy, including telling the examiner a secret even they don’t know, the final test to be the official Court Eunuch is an interview with those involved at the Court of the Belaroth. Chunt helps by posing as the interviewer in a mock interview while Arnie and Usidore observe from the sidelines. Benedict does wonderfully on his own, but the group offers some zingy one-liners to ramp up his performance.
The interview boosts Benedict's spirits. Before they leave, the group asks if there has been any rumors about that. Under the Gossip’s Oath, Benedict is obligated to tell them. Someone is plotting to murder Chunt. It may seem physically impossible, but metaphysically, it is correct. Usidore’s greatest enemy is also his greatest love and the two most trusted allies make merciless fun of him. Initially, Arnie had no negative rumors about him, but under further investigation, Benedict was looking under “Arnie the Handsome'', a person who fell through a dimensional portal behind a find dining establishment and made friends with Merlin the Magnificent and Cyrus the Shapeshifter, whom he travels with.
Arnie asks if Benedict is plotting against someone they know and love, which he keeps close to the chest while Benedict tries to give back a sweater Arnie has left last time he was there. A story for another time.
