"Maybe Mister Chauncey" is the ninety-seventh numbered episode of season three of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on July 19, 2021.

Description

A meeting with fancy little faun, Mister Chauncey, takes a strange turn when a large ominous creature shows up claiming to be Mister Chauncey.

Summary

Arnie and Badger Boy/Chunt are at the at the Lonely Gorilla where they discuss what happens to them when they die. Arnie analyses religion, Usidore comes in and believes that a ghost comes out of your chest, and since Badger Boy's dad is a hunger ghost, the spirit crawls out of the mouth in 30-40 years. Shapeshifters also have to pay a toll of two ounces of flesh after death, so he is circumcised for the occasion.

After discussing the various types of patrons at the Lonely Gorilla, Arnie reminds the two that they are about to meet up with Mister Chauncey, the little fancy faun who they have recruited to co-mayor Hogsface back in season 2. However, a gruff individual sits himself down with them. Although he has Mister Chauncey's waist coat, the stranger is much more intimidating and claims to be Mister Chauncey. He brings up Mister Chauncey's former career: the keeper of the portals. The group recognize the differences between his current appearance and when they saw him last, but brush the changes off as not seeing their friend for over three years now.

Instead of getting new information from "Mister Chauncey", whom is often giving variations on the name name, the host reiterate their history with Mister Chauncey. When "Mister Chauncey" asks why they are in Northeastia, the group responds with their pledge to help Tomblain Belaroth ascend to the throne and his birthright. "Mister Chauncey", however, is skeptical on this manner, implying all those who wish to to claim the throne for their own. He also suggest that people would be none the wiser if Tom was pushed into one of the portals, never to be seen again. As they are sworn to protect Tom's life, the group ask how they could spot a dimensional portal and Badger Boy starts to feel weird, but nothing too serious that extends beyond the break.

Usidore and Arnie get into a group huddle with Badger Boy and "Mister Chauncey" not far behind. Usidore doesn't think someone is who they claim to be in their group, although he thinks it is Badger Boy. Usidore then casts a truth spell for five minutes. While the spell is taking affect, they give truthful statements and make a drinking game out of it. Badger Boy finally admits that his name is Chunt. Usidore is, of course, Usidore, with all the other names and titles given to him. Arnie admits that his full name is Arnold Paul Niekamp and the group suggests that he changes his name. "Mister Chauncey" was able to skirt the truth about being "Mister Chauncey", but could not avoid hiding his identity any long after being forced to say that he has never "killed" Mister Chauncey. The being's name is David Allen Mackenzie, a great big Oaf who has opened portals from other dimensions that had people come out of it. As for the real Mister Chauncey, David Allen was with him sometime before the Destruction of Hogsface while Mister Chauncey was drunk. Mister Chauncey told David Allen about his former career in Portalia (and how he fought and Ecru Witch1). Wanting that life, David Allen knocked him out, took his waistcoat, and tied him behind a shed. Despite the implication of Mister Chauncey's death, David Allen reassure the group that he was outside of the shed and could have easily escaped if he wanted to.

The looming threat of visitors from other dimensions and a new evil beyond the Dark Lord, Usidore and David Allen intimidate each other of the dangers the future holds. Arnie asks where these new foes could be which David Allen Mackenzie response with a riddle:

The land you walk may seem pristine
But, oh look, it's someone mean
This fellow means you so much harm
In fact, he got a specific arm

David Allen give one final warning, then calls out to a portal to jump through it, leaving the hosts at the tavern. Arnie tries to call out for a portal the same way, but it doesn't work, so Usidore shows him how it is done. They then leave to get donuts.
