"A New Age" is the premiere episode of season four of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on October 18, 2021.

Description

A new era of peace dawns in Foon, but maybe that's not entirely true. More importantly we talk to a wind sprite that loves to hear wishes.

Summary

Word of the Dark Lord’s defeat by Usidore has spread throughout the land of Foon. In the town of Nibblebottom, Usidore is surrounded by the townsfolk, praising him on his accomplishment, adorning him with new titles. Arnie, however, attempts to pull him away from his adorning fans to start the podcast. Chunt comments that Usidore is getting too used to his wizard groupies, or “wizpees”, which Arnie mistakes as penile leakage.

Arnie brings the group to The Strange Familiar, the tavern where both Arnie and Chunt are residing. He brings them to, they hope is, their new regular table, a 7 foot tall oak table. They climb up to the chairs while Usidore floats up. The three start the podcast, hyping up the start of Season 4.

As per usual, they start with the banter, informing each other, and the audience, with what they have been up to during the down time. As the Dark Lord is defeated and “not hopped into another body and kept in the basement of the tavern”, the three host takes time to take care of themselves. Chunt has opened a Black and White smith shop in town, a place like a normal blacksmith shop that has armor and weapons matching the style of his badger fur. Usidore, who has “completed” his true purpose, is enjoying telling his story to those around him and prepares for his ascension back to the realms of Ephysiyies. Arnie, wishing to make Nibblebottom their new home, tries to be more active to be part of the community. He decides to take on a trade and applied to be an apprentice to a local cooper, despite not knowing what being a cooper entails. Usidore offers to tell Arnie, but knowing might just deter Arnie’s interest.

Arnie invites their guest to join them for an interview, Wizla, the Wind Sprite of the Wishing Well. Immediately, she compliments the group on how they project themselves and assures them that they will do well in Nibblebottom. She also mentions that the hamlet is looking for a new Town Daddy, which peaks Chunt’s interest. As for Wizla, she took on the role at the well in the center of town. The well is for washing and general welling, but Wizla took it upon herself to let it be a place where people can share their wishes with her. Although she cannot actively grant those wishes, she is more than happy to be trusted by the wishes of the passersby, including the hosts.

Wizla shares some lore of the surrounding area. Nibblebottom is on the base of the Unnameable Mountain, where they have a sister town on the other side of the mountains; Bimbletop, which has their own Town Mommy. Lore has it that the third peak, closest to Bimbletop, is the tail of a slumbering dragon. Nimblebttom’s Town Daddy created a moat at the base of the mountain to contain the goo from the Unnamable Mountain. The main sport in the area is long distance running. There are also many of the statues around town that were people at some point.

When Wizla mentions her family in town, she brings up her parents are all manner of winds and birds. The group makes a connection that Usidore may be related to Wizla, as his parents are a conspiracy of the winds and birds and fire and frog, etc. They make plans to meet up at the family reunion, when they return to the realms of Ephyiyies after achieving their true purpose.

Chunt resolves to run for Town Daddy. This will require him to finish a run and be on good terms with Bimbletop’s Town Mommy. Then there will be a democratic election. Arnie asks if Wizla ever considered to run for Town Daddy, but she lists it as a long term goal, maybe in the next era. Chunt asks what her wish is; which is to go with Owen, the conductor of the welcome wagon, on a midnight catamaran in the ocean. The reveal leads her and Chunt to play a game of Gust Who.

With his quest “finished”, Usidore is unsure how to casually end the interaction. Arnie just tells him to just say goodbye cordially. Wizla leaves, but pops back in on and off. Eventually, Arnie tries out a closer statement for the episode, which lukewarm results.
