"Baker" is the eleventh episode of season four of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on January 9, 2022.
Description
Usidore is a little too excited to welcome the baker of the best muffins in Nibblebottom.
Summary
To set the mood of the tavern, The Strange Familiar, Arnie, Chunt, and Usidore stresses how cold it has gotten. Chunt introduces Buurs to Arnie, a beer spilled on one’s lap. Usidore is not pleased about the rising prices of Buurs, which, technically, Usidore is responsible for since he owns the Tavern. He has a heated argument with himself with fireballs.
The group hasn’t seen each other in weeks, so Arnie ask how everyone’s break was. Usidore is rejuvenated, but still has to prepare for his death as he told the other wizards he will die in three weeks time. Chunt is also rejuvenated but also jacked as hell. Usidore is going in the opposite direction, as he has been obsessed with muffins as of late. He brings in the baker of the muffins, Duggan GahLump.
Duggan is a baker of muffins and small cakes made with love (and lots of cinnamon). He offers a multitude of muffin types, even to some that imply magical properties, but they are just delicious. But as Usidore and Duggan go on and on about the different muffins offered by Duggan, Arnie and Chunt begin to suspect that Usidore agreed to the interview as a form of ad placement. The other two proceed to shill for the muffins, including directing everyone to the location of the bakery, offer codes for deals on muffins, and the bonus items with purchase like a pillow-y knife.
Arnie asks Duggan on how he got into the baking industry. Long ago, Duggan has been enchanted by a grandma with all the grandma powers; baking, knitting, knowing when to give birthday cards or sweaters. In fact, Duggan provides a belated birthday card to all the hosts with two monetary units inside. Duggan and Chunt bond a little more, after some tepid interaction with Chunt’s name. Still they work together well to be a crime fighting duo, starting with finding who caused the fireball scorch marks around the Tavern. Since it was Usidore, Duggan puts him over his lap and starts spanking his ass.
Before Duggan was enchanted by a grandma, Duggan was raised by a single mother, Clarinda, who is a Whispering Mouther, a being with multiple mouths and would eat people. Duggan does not know who their father is, but many hints his mother gave implies that it is Usidore (though Usidore is the only one who noticed). Luckily, Chunt has an envelope that he found by the river that could tell Duggan who the father is, but when they read the letter inside, it says “If you find this note, I drowned in the river”.
Duggan’s shoulder seems to look like it is puckering, so Arnie asks about it. Duggan admits that they, too, have another mouth. They open up their wood enclosure to reveal Bill, the name of the hole with teeth who tends to be foul mouthed. Bill proceeds to insult every single person in the group before Duggan covers the hole again. Arnie points out another puckering spot, to which Duggan admits to a third mouth. After opening those wooden enclosures, the mouth, Tennis, gives so folksy wisdom for Arnie and Usidore, like how to commemorate the new year and how to fake one’s own death. Usidore also asks if Tennis had their own dreams beyond Duggan, but they have given up on dreaming long ago and just want a lemon or a grapefruit. Usidore offers a Blood Orange and Tennis greedily accepts it. Duggan, Bill, and Tennis also have a barber shop triplet.
Usidore continues with his muffin obsession and Chunt relents and buys 2 muffins. However his purchase is short of participating in the muffin deal. To make up for it, Chunt orders 6 muffins while Arnie orders none, which puts him into danger of being eaten by Duggan’s mom.
Post Credit Scene
Bill swears more and tells the listeners that the show is done.
Emails
- An unnamed listener questions the legitimacy of Usidore owning the tavern as Tormaline, Dragon Teen paid for the majority (technically all) of the deed with the Fabrajie Egg. Usidore now questions if he is just the manager of the Strange Familiar.
- Stephanie Oliver emails via Patreon asking Chunt to read their email for Winter Solstice, which has now passed. They thank the group as they have been a major help to them, overcoming the struggles in their life, and considers the group their boon companions. The hosts are touched on how their show "ruin" people's lives and Duggan will leave a dolly for them at the portal at the Burger King.
