"Treasure Hunters" is the twelfth episode of season four of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on January 16, 2022.

Description

A crypt rummager named Coral Loft and a former Mittens ref stop by the show off some of the fantastical treasures they've found.

Summary

Arnie and Chunt start the podcast by showing off their new “haircuts”. After getting jacked last episode, Chunt has been intentionally pulling out his fur painfully to show off his body. Arnie got into a hair fight with a Barberian, who pulled out Arnie’s hair in a way that works for him. He tried to reciprocate, but to no avail. Arnie shares some work stories as someone has been stealing from Winny, the Cooper and Arnie’s boss, such that the supplies to cooping are low. Meanwhile, Usidore, mostly ignored, plans his next two weeks as he is still slated to “die”. He had spoken to some ice elves, who had agreed to let him crash with them for a while.

After some silence about the topic, Chunt reminds the gang that he has a black-and-white-smith shop in town, a blacksmith shop that has black and white patterns on the gear that mimics his fur. Recently, he had read a request from some adventurers in town and he had invited them on the podcast. He welcomes up to the tall table Coral Loft and Tiffany Scampi, the latter a former Mittens referee, and gives them their requested items: a battle ax for Coral and a war whistle for Tiffany. Tiffany is also a fan of the show, as she has been hearing them from the birds. After Arnie talks about trying to monetize the birds, Coral assumes that “Mr. Arnold” might be an adventurer too given the way he talks. He explains that he is from another world, which interests the two adventures as they have been picking up some “strange trinkets” all over Foon that he might be able to assist with. The First item is a “metal disk” with the words “isded” on it. The beings of Foon hypothesize its purpose, assuming it is a hat for a bottle. Arnie tries to explain the Earth bottle cap in their terms, but goes on a tangent on the difference between Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi and sounds like an idiot.

Coral tries to describe more of her adventures to the hosts, but her voice changes slightly to a less "fanciful" accent. Coral admits to the gang that she puts on an "adventurer voice" in order to hype herself up for the tasks ahead. Although the voice does give Coral more confidence, Tiffany finds changing voices mid-adventure distracting as it wastes time. Chunt pushes more on the topic, asking if they have to meet some sort of quota. Tiffany discloses that they are currently being hired to collect trinkets, like the bottle cap, from all over Foon for their benefactor. They show off another trinket: a larger, shiner disk than before. Usidore is drawn to the silvery disk, which is a CD with Enigma, Sadness Part 1. There are a few others just like it in Coral's and Tiffany's inventory, however, they are already reserved for another buyer. The adventurers show off an item that is available for purchase: a cloth with flavors at each corner, a kiss mark in the center and written characters with numbers and "callme". Arnie is not impressed since it is just a napkin, but the group speculates on its use, then Coral proceeds to describe how she ripped a heart out of a being. The two also have an American $100 bill, but it is immediately ripped up due to how ugly it is.

Chunt exchanges more items with the adventures. Tiffany has been holding on to a special gift, specifically geared to Chunt’s interests: a bird shaped rock. Usidore calls bullshit as he has been mostly ignored for the episode. The group tries to calm him down, but Usidore proceeds to wear all of Chunt’s discarded fur.

Chunt proceeds to give Tiffany more items that remind her of her Mittens refereeing days: a black and white chainmail. Tiffany goes into her time before being an adventurer. As discussed in previous episodes, Mittens is a difficult and chaotic sport with hundreds of rules, some contradicting each other. Although there are parts she did enjoy, she did get hit in the eye with a metal chair during one of the “Open Season” phases of the game, causing her to be blind in that eye. She retired and became an adventurer with Coral, who have watched her referee some games, and retired from being a Mittens Referee. Chunt is willing to exchange the bird rock to Usidore if Usidore uses his magic to repair Tiffany’s sight. Before the trade could be completed, Arnie notices the Rogers in the bar were fighting and throwing chairs at one another. A Stray chair hits Tiffany, blinding her completely. After kicking out the ruffians, Usidore hits Tiffany with the healing rock to repair the initial damage, then casts a spell to grant her multiple eyes.

Due to Arnie’s transgressions with a bird during the episode, before their guests had arrived, the bird comes back with a chair in wing. The bird throws the chair at the group, which hits Tiffany in the eyes, once again blinding her. Usidore casts another spell to fix her vision and Chunt and Arnie criticizes his rhymes. As Chunt gets more drinks for the table, Arnie reminds Usidore that during the Winter Solstice, they threw chairs up at the ceiling to make them stick. One of the ceiling chairs jiggles loose and pops out one of Tiffany’s eyes, and is subsequently popped. After some stalling for words to rhyme, Usidore once again casts a spell to help Tiffany. She then hides under Coral’s bosom to protect her eyes from any more chairs.

The hosts proceed with the interview as normal, asking questions about Tiffany’s time in Mittens and how Coral got into adventuring. When they begin to ask about their current employer, they try to dodge the questions. Arnie asks his classic disarming questions to get the two to review more information about their boss, only for Chunt to come out and reveal that he is the one who had hired them. Wanting to do more in the podcast, Chunt had befriended Coral and Tiffany more than four years ago and invited them to come on as guests to annoy Usidore. He apologizes for the ruse. Chunt pays the two the money he owes them for the act. Coral is overwhelmed by the kindness, but drops the act when Tiffany counts the money and finds the payment being drastically short. Coral uses the battle ax that she was given to start a bar wrestling fight with Chunt and company to get the gold they rightfully deserve.
