"Germ Crust Visits" is the eighteenth episode of season four of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on February 27, 2022.
Description
Germ returns to pay her final respects to the "dying" Usidore.
Summary
Arnie feels the weight of the Seventh Anniversary of the Podcast approaching as well as the ongoing situation between his boss at the Cooper and the rival cooper that has stolen his boss’s supply (still uncertain what a cooper does). Meanwhile, Chunt is riding high on the Mountain Brew: Haha Blast and Usidore is keeping up the ruse of his death. However, the more Usidore feigns weakness, the more he starts to sound like Can the Wizard.
Chunt asks if there is a guest lined up today to cheer up Usidore. Luckily, Arnie had a perfect guest for this, Germ Crust. She expresses joy seeing everyone again, especially Usidore. In the time away from the group, she has been trying to earn her degree in Glumology, the study of being glum. She is working on her thesis on the act of Can’t Even. Her thesis sounds so interesting, the group wonders if she would do a tour to talk about her subject matter. After spit-balling different names for her show, Germ suggests that they should be her guests when she does it. Arnie and Chunt are on board, but Usidore will be “dying” soon. Usidore takes the two under the table to discuss the situation as Usidore wants to do right by Germ, who has dropped many hints of her sadness being caused by their separation. They resolve joining Germ on her podcast after the first break.
On the Inaugural episode of “A Can’t Evening with Germ Crust”, Germ introduces the concept and reminds the listeners of her roots as a Make-Up Artist. She introduces her three guests and asks what recently had made them sad. Arnie starts off, introducing his catchphrase, “hey”, which Chunt finds weak, and says that Chunt had made him sad on multiple occasions. Chunt is next and is sad to hear from Arnie that he makes Arnie sad. Finally Usidore is introduced as the most uplifting person. He is used to expressing his sadness as he has been a caller for quite some time. The most recent event that made him sad was when no one showed up while he was on his deathbed, but is glad Aprel Füls and Germ have come to see him. Germ was going to say that Usidore is the first dying guest she had had, but they are all dying. Chunt and Arnie are saddened by their mortality, but Usidore offers to let them know exactly how they will die. Germ thinks this is a good idea to end the show run with and wants to add to her thesis that one should not be told to be sad, but to one should be sad. All three lament on the purpose of their actions if they are all meant to be sad, to which Germ decides that, since it’s her show, she will decide when the show ends and if they should be sad. Usidore jumps topics and says when birds fly into windows, it makes him sad. The show ends with a final segment: The Can’t Even, where everyone gets an opportunity to rant for 30 seconds on things that cannot even with. Germ closes with a different title for the show and Chunt does the credits.
Back on “Welcome to the Magic Tavern”, Arnie asks Germ what led her to study the glum arts. Traumatized by the first quest to go after the the Dark Lord and the heartbreak made by Usidore, Germ dedicated her time to study what she was feeling and is now an expert. Chunt notices all the ghosts that have followed her in the past are outside of the tavern, not lurking with her. At first, Germ defends the ghost, as they are fun loving and vivacious, but later admits that they have been burdening her, especially that ghosts have been known to suck the energy out of an area. Empowered by the guys, she takes a stand with her ghosts and goes out to yell at them to go away. When she comes back, they praise her for allowing herself to feel and ask if there is anyone else she needs to let out her feelings on to. To no one’s surprise, she yells at Usidore for being dismissive of the openings she had left for him and is upset that he was going to leave this world without a word to her.
After some uninterrupted release, a hurt Usidore appreciates Germs honesty and apologies for indulging in their “what if'' scenario. He felt cautious to pursue anything since he was entangled with Jyn’Leeviyah. Germ actually thinks highly of Jyn’Leeviyah and does not blame her for the whole thing. Usidore told her that if he “survives” his death, maybe they could give their relationship a shot. However, she had already moved on from her feelings. Usidore accepts this and tells her that he will be moving on too; to the next plane of existence. He is truly happy for Germ.
Sensing Usidore’s is still reeling, despite his acceptance, Chunt wants to diffuse the tension by singing his song “Healthy to be Honry”. However, Arnie had heard some bards singing about “The Savior of Foon”. He invites the bards in to sing. While listening, they discovered that the song is not about Usidore, but about Dripfang, the necromancer and a minion of the Dark Lord. Usidore starts to fume in rage. But the tune is so catchy, the other three are still dancing and humming along.
Usidore admits to Germ that the Dark Lord isn’t really dead, but trapped in the basement of the Strange Familiar. But he keeps the lie up to give hope to the people of Foon. Although Germ is speechless, she offers the opportunity for Usidore to come with her to speak her true. However, the three might have a new quest in mind: get to Dripfang.
Song
- "Savior of Foon" Sung by Traveling Bards (Arne Parrott)
When the world had fallen into darkness
A humble band of heroes came
And one among them stood above them
And we forever to sing his name
While others cowered, he empowered
Summoned his obsidian sword
Focused on his quest most ancient
He struck down the Dark Lord
Now all Foon shall sing his praises
He whose hand is true and sure
So, raise your glasses, toast his bravery
Never forget who it’s for
So…is…there…
Anyone out there who can possibly compare
To Dripfang
He answered the call with really no help at all
It’s Dripfang
He’s a model of a person that everyone could be
And if he isn’t a wizard, he certainly should beWho’s our hero of choice with the sexy sexy voice
That’s Dripfang
“His vibe is so fun” “I’mma name my first son
After Dripfang”
Thank you, Mr. Dripfang for freeing us
He should have his own realm of Ephysiyies
Well, maybe he seemed evil at first
He killed a lot of people. He did a lot worse.
But now we see that everyone was wrong
We love an anti-hero who was good all along
Who can poof a whole cake and is made out of snakes
That’s Dripfang
Who’s the Hero of Foon making every gender swoon
That’s Dripfang
And if we had our way, he would have his own day
And it would be every day. No one else should get a day
Dripfang is the best. He Saved the World!
Dripfang saved the world!
Post-Credit Scene
Chunt adds more to the "Healthy to be Horny" Song.
