"Mind Games" is the second episode of season four of Hello from the Magic Tavern. It was originally released on October 24, 2021.
Description
Selling, stealing, and sharing memories leads to confusion (and love?).
Summary
Carfoon Blemish threatens Arnie while he was in the basement just before his alarm goes off to start the podcast. Arnie rushes up from the basement and tries to gather his co-hosts. Usidore meditates, prepping "his ascension to Ephysiyies". Chunt gives a similar amount of energy to Arnie, suggesting spanking himself for even more motivation. They clip up the 7 foot tall table to begin the podcast.
Arnie gives a new variant of the intro, as they are at The Strange Familiar at the Town of Nibblebottom. The group talks about all the things the audience needs to know as the intro still glosses over some key points in their history, like when Usidore was really into salsa or when they had Zach Plasma on. After Usidore gets back up onto his chair after landing on three Wizpees, Arnie introduces the guests, who he hopes they can negotiate a sponsorship deal.
Mentis, an extremely bald merchant, and Vredla, a 5' 6", 134 lb chameleon, climb up to the table. Arnie and Chunt immediately point out Mentis's baldness, which offends Mentis. They explain their business; they are Mind Hunters. This includes collecting memories and emotions via syringe to the forehead and selling them. Vredla seems especially interested in the gossip and the secrets people hold. Usidore, having lived a long life, offers some of his memories. Before Arnie can warn him that he may have secrets that he should keep private, his memory is extracted.
When asked how Mentis and Vredla got into their business partnership, Mentis cannot seem to remember. He thinks he had used the memories extraction method as the extraction cause bald spot and he has seen portraits of himself with full head of hair. Mentis seems lightly perturbed that his first memory is with Vredla, standing over him with he syringe, but Vredla eases his mind and tells him to not assume. Meanwhile, Usidore asks Arnie about the badger sitting with them, which Arnie has to remind him that he is Chunt, their friend and boon companion. At this revelations, Arnie pulls aside Chunt to tell him that he thinks Usidore forgetfulness is coming from his old age. Vredla, despite using her skills as a chameleon, blatantly eavesdrops on the conversation. She writes down the discussion, only for Chunt to see that she has only written "hot chameleon" several times.
Arnie still tries to fish out so more personal information about Mentis, only to have Vredla funnel the questions to herself so she can answer for him. She also reveals her loving feelings for Mentis. Usidore comes back with Drinks for the table: the memories of Sheevna, the bartender, where they partake in the memories and see the service first hand. Usidore also asks if Mentis also sells the memories of evil doers as he wants to figure out how to right those wrongs. Mentis offers a sampler pack where Usidore gets a memory that maybe worth more than his memory of meeting Fizzle von Pizzlewich. Vredla shares her hobby as a sound cloud rapper, prompting Usidore to share his experiences with The Loose Ends. He raps for the group, which Chunt and Mentis ask for that memory to be removed. Mentis offers Chunt's memory to Usidore, which he tries. The exchange leaves Usidore thinking he's a shapeshifter, Chunt believing he is a cat, and Arnie pointing out to Mentis that Vredla is in love with him.
With all the back and forth, Arnie asks if this line of work causes too much chaos. Mentis tries to assure Arnie, only to realize the damages Vredla has done to him out of love. Mentis suggest that Vredla extract some of her love out of her mind so Mentis can take it to fall in love with her. However, Vredla suggests he gives her emotion to the hot chameleon so they can call be in love with each other. Arnie concludes that the two are just perverts. Vredla confirms this and Chunt reveals that he is also a part of the Pervert's Union.
After seeing the events that unfolded, Arnie wants to keep his memories. Although, in exchange, he offers up the stories from his world to be extracted so they can be shared across Foon. He starts explaining the TV show Fringe while Vredla writes "hot chameleon" over and over again.
Post Credits Scene
Mentis tries to list some of the names of the evil people he has memories of, only for Anthony Burch in real life to flub, listing items that's around him. The group tries to salvage the name, but ends up laughing about it in the end.
