Description
Usidore receives acting lessons from Winky Silks and Michael Gunch, who run a seminar on faking your death.
Summary
Chunt is still determined to make “Sloping Down Slobodan” happen, no matter how much the vicinity shakes when “Slobodan” is said. He asks Arnie about the attractions on Earth and he mentions the Willis Tower and the Bean in Chicago. Arnie tries to surprise Chunt and Usidore with his pinky in a jar, but the surprise was ruined since the jar was clear. What is unexpected though is the fact his pinky now talks!
Pinky is not the guest for the episode. Instead, Arnie and Chunt hired some old friends to help Usidore sell his “death”. Initially, an old hag appears at the table, but it turns out to be Winky Silks, engross in the leading role of The Crone. Michael Gunch follows and greets the host for the start of the workshop. Already impressed by their entrance and acting prowess, the gang asks Winky and Gunch to act out a short scene from The Crone, with Winky playing the Lead and Gunch playing Police Commissioner Warren Davis. After the act, Usidore shows his gratitude that their friends are visiting him before his time of death. However, the two laugh at his face as his farce does not seem believable. Arnie and Chunt deduced that the reason no one else showed up to Usidore’s Death Party is that the people do not actually believe he is dying. Although Winky and Gunch do not completely understand why Usidore needs to fake his death, they are hired on commission to put Usidore through the wringer. Winky shows an example of how one should act being dead. It is very convincing to the point Arnie was ready to get the doctor, but the wildfires raging Nibblebottom have killed her and several others.
After an hour of the workshop, Usidore has made little progress. However, he is still passionate about learning the craft. The actors demand that he forgets everything that he knows and who the old Usidore was in order to dive into the role of being dead. Gunch asks Usidore to walk like a normal person to start. The first attempt fails and Usidore goes again (imagine a person taking trumpet steps). Winky slaps Usidore, but he reacts before the hit, failing another exercise. Winky tries again, and surprises him with another slap. Usidore feels like the workshop is working since he feels awful about himself and wants to eat a salad so others can see that he is eating one.
Chunt says that Usidore leans too much onto his voice, so Gunch pivots to making it a visual experience. Winky goes in to choke Usidore in efforts to help Usidore practice his silence and non-reaction. When his neck is released, he says that he is dead in a more convincing manner to Gunch’s and Winky’s standards. Pushing on this instinct, they demand secrets from Usidore to which he reveals that he peed himself in front of Jyn’Leeviyah the first time he saw her, has doubts that he is not a very good wizard, and that he accepts that he and the Dark Lord may share some origins. Usidore performs another death, which is beautiful. Usidore brings up another issue with his fake death; that he needs to be a shaft of light to shoot up into the air. Gunch gives him some glitter and a t-shirt that says “I am a Shaft of Light”.
There is still time in the workshop, so they take turns performing Usidore’s Death. First is Chunt, who gives a “simplistic” southern scene before death. Arnie performs a death that captures Living Usidore accurately. Usidore then performs his death, utilizing all the tools her learned before the break. Wilky and Gunch are asked to give their interpretation. Gunch starts to go into the logistics of the additional cost for him to perform, but then describes his own heart attack. He unveils his farce and enters a standard Cockticklers Q&A. Gunch goes into how much research and observing it takes to make his death believable and it takes a while to get out of the mode of acting. He and Winky are employed by the Northeast thanks to Tomblain Belaroth. Arnie circles back to find out if Gunch committed murder during his “research time”, but death is persistent in Foon, whether hi is involved or not. The same goes for preparing for love scenes.
Winky gives Usidore his new identity for after he performs his death. Winky tells Usidore to not open it at all or even look at it, but the rest of the group share a laugh of the new identity; Flint Pus, a real chode of a character. They give him first lines, catchphrases, a look to aspire too, etc. Winky reminds Arnie and Chunt not to share this with Usidore. They call Usidore back over to rejoin the group and Gunch praises Usidore’s evolution, and might even be better than King Albain Belaroth. The reveal stops Arnie and Usidore dead in their tracks and Winky and Gunch mention that they have signed a Non-Diabolical Arts (a NDA) and can only mention that they have run similar workshops with the former king. They go over hypothetical situations on why King Albain would need to fake his death and Arnie and Usidore find relief that they might not be responsible for the latter’s death.
What’s next for the Cockticklers? Since money isn’t really an object for them anymore, they still want to perform and now are providing community outreach services. They perform the community’s ideas and complaints and show them how much worse it could be for them. Arnie and Chutn paid for one more exercise, so Chunt speaks a sentence, each one starting with a letter of the alphabet Starting from A, aiming for Z, but Chunt stops at X. Usidore wants to give Wink and Gunch a little more as a thank you for their help, so Gunch suggests that Usidore use his magic to make them look younger. As the years get sucked off, Winky’s face gets stuck in a permanent frown while Gunch’s face turns into a permanent smile. The boon turns into a monkey’s paw situation and Chunt alludes to Usidore’s future identity.
