Description
Duncan Potatogrease wants to play a tavern game to see who's better at being absolutely rocked in the face by magic.
Summary
This week in the Wanderlost, Arnie and Chunt open the episode discussing a potential spinoff podcast called “Arnie’s Horny Mornings,” when Duncan Potatogrease enters the tavern.
Duncan asks if anyone would like to make a wager with him, which Usidore takes, betting all of his gold. Duncan explains he’s a “magic punching bag” of sorts, or just a guy who knows some magic. He challenges Usidore to a game he calls: “Get Absolutely Rocked in the Face With Magic.”
Before the game, they talk about how Duncan got his name. His mother loved Duncan the God of the Morning, brother to Bruce the Sky God. Duncan also mentions his brother, Tim Horton, named after the slightly more regional sky god, Tim Horton the God of the Northern Skies.
Duncan draws lines on the tavern floor while Chunt destroys bar stools to make room. Duncan and Usidore stand on the lines, and Duncan instructs Usidore to lock in his most powerful spell a quarter-inch from his face. Duncan isn’t worried about Usidore’s power, explaining he’s undefeated in his ability to be absolutely rocked by magic and survive. Usidore releases an explosion of white light on Duncan’s face, who screams as he’s thrown across the room. He continues to shout in agony, saying it’s usually not this bad. He loses almost all of the hair on his head, as well as his front top teeth, and all of his bottom teeth. Duncan admits his friends he usually plays with aren’t that strong and he tends to win by tiring opponents out, not with any strong magic of his own. For Duncan’s turn, he casts a small spell, singeing the tip of Usidore’s hat.
Round two begins. Usidore next casts a friendship spell, which would make the next person Duncan sees a friend for life, but also knocks him away. After another agonizing cry, Duncan is thrown back and is so concussed, he sees all of the hosts, the crowd in the tavern, and the stools at the bar and believes them all to be his best friends. He forfeits the round, saying he can’t hurt a friend. For Usidore’s next turn, he blasts Duncan with pure darkness that consumes his soul. At first, Duncan is fine, but then collapses to the ground, screaming and crying that he’s all alone and his friends are gone. Usidore mentions the darkness will last a month.
Usidore begins to feel bad and concedes, giving Duncan all of his money (which, granted, isn’t much). Duncan, though utterly disorientated by a severe concussion, injuries, and blindness, chats about where he’s from—a small community of exiled magic users, most likely exiled for not being good at magic. After winning “Rocked in the Face With Magic” against his cousins many times, he ventured out to seek more opponents. Duncan decides, however, to give Usidore his money back, saying he feels bad for forcing him to concede, thinking he’s humiliated him. Arnie offers to take Usidore’s wager so Duncan could feel better about taking the money, explaining Duncan would defeat him pretty quickly. Arnie goes first and casts gelliv lichtn kamer. Duncan screams, falling back, Arnie accidentally setting the inside of his eyes on fire. Duncan forfeits his next turn. Arnie flicks Duncan in the face, saying “bibbity bobbity boo,” only meaning to pretend to cast magic. However, a pumpkin grows out of Duncan’s head, which Usidore has to cut him out of.
Duncan says he has to leave, not wanting to be hurt anymore, and Arnie offers Duncan a draw. Duncan takes it, and says he won’t play “Get Absolutely Rocked in the Face with Magic” anymore, except with his cousins. He floats up to ceiling, trying to leave, but is stuck in the rafters for the next few episodes.
